Begins to exchange correspondence with the São Paulo writer Mário de
Andrade.
1927 -
Gustavo Barroso publishes Através dos Folk-lores. To Cascudo it
was offered with a dedication: "To the old friend, D. Luiz da Câmara,
nobleman of spirit and of manners, with my heartfelt longing, G.
Barroso."
1928 -
Monteiro Lobato publishes, in São Paulo, his História do Rio Grande
do Norte. A second meeting with Mário de Andrade. They spend a month
together in Natal and take a one-week trip to the State’s interior, in
the company of Antonio Bento de Araújo Lima.
1929 -
Meets with Gustavo Barroso in Tyrol.
1930 -
Gustavo Barroso publishes Almas de Lama e de Aço. Lampeão e Outros
Cangaceiros, Cascudo offering it to him with a dedication: "To D.
Luiz da Câmara Cascudo, noble friend, with a nostalgic hug from
Gustavo."
1932 - A
series of letters in support of the São Paulo "Uprising", with
references to the formation of the opposition in Rio Grande do Norte.
1933 -
Gustavo Barroso publishes O Integralismo em Marcha, offering it
to him with a dedication: "To D. Luiz the Integralista, these words of
the Spirit against the material, with all my heart. With integral
enthusiasm. Onwards! Gustavo." [Integralismo is a fascist movement in
Brazil at this time. Gustavo Barroso was the movement’s intellectual
national leader, and Cascudo a regional leader.]
1934 -
Gustavo Barroso publishes an anti-Semitic book, Brasil, Colônia de
Banqueiros, offering it to him with a dedication: "To dear Cascudo,
Anauê! Gustavo". Gustavo Barroso also publishes O Integralismo de
Norte a Sul, given to Cascudo with the dedication: "To Cascudo, with
a brotherly embrace, Gustavo." [Anauê! Is the salutory cry of the
Brazilian fascist movement.]
1935 -
Meets with Mário de Andrade in São Paulo; Gustavo Barroso publishes A
Palavra e o Pensamento Integralista, given to Cascudo with the
dedication: "To Cascudo with warm greetings! Gustavo. 1st
June 1935". Gustavo Barroso publishes O que o Integralista Deve Saber.
The book is offered to him with a dedication: "To Cascudo, as a brother,
Anauê! Gustavo. 15th March 1935"; he further publishes
História Militar do Brasil, given to Cascudo with the dedication:
"To my dear friend Cascudo, with a close hug, Gustavo. Rio, 8th
December 1935".
1936 -
Gustavo Barroso publishes Espírito do Século XX, given to him
with the dedication: "To Cascudo, with a big hug and Gustavo’s Anauê! 6th
September 1936"; Barroso also publishes Os Protocolos dos Sábios de
Sião, an anti-Semitic book, and offers it to him with the
dedication: "To Cascudo with a nostalgic hug from your old friend
Gustavo" and also O Integralismo e o Mundo with the dedication:
"To Cascudinho, from your old and faithful friend Gustavo."
1937 - G.
Barroso publishes A Sinagoga Paulista, an anti-Semitic book, sent
to Cascudo with the dedication: "To my old and dear friend Cascudo, with
a big hug, from Gustavo"; he also publishes Judaísmo, Maçonaria e
Comunismo, another anti-Semitic book, and gives it to him with the
dedication: "To D. Luiz, from D. Gustavo"; he also publishes
Integralismo e Catolicismo, and gives it to him with the dedication:
"To my dearest friend of the heart, Luiz da Câmara Cascudo. Gustavo
Barroso."; publishes A História Secreta do Brasil, with the
dedication: "To Cascudinho from your old and faithful friend Gustavo."
1939 -
Meets with Mário de Andrade in Rio de Janeiro.
1941 - In
Rio de Janeiro for a meeting of the National Council of Geography;
projects for the Brazilian Society of Folk-lore.
1962 -
Assis Chateaubriand invites Câmara Cascudo, on behalf of the D. Pedro II
Society of Historical Studies, to write a book on some aspect of the
History of Brazil. Cascudo suggests he writes a História da
Alimentação no Brasil and the suggestion is accepted.
