1918 - On the 18^th of October, publishes his first article in A Imprensa ("O Tempo e Eu", p. 61), according to Mario Casar Carvalho in a column named "Bric à Brac" (Mais!, p. 4).

1920 - Publishes selected verses by Lourival Açucena.

1921 - Publishes Alma Patrícia: "(...) impressionist and admiring critical reviews", bibliographical notes on eighteen writers from Rio Grande do Norte State: "In a brief and superficial review I get to show my fellow-countrymen’s refined spirits (...) It is a given that nobody in Natal is literary. Literature around here is a mere dilettantism, a hobby, amusement of the soul (...) Then, the materiality of life takes charge of gathering them in the terraces, by the tables of bureaucracy or on the retreat of the farms or the villages of the country side (...) I did what I could. Whoever can do it better, do it for a greater gloss of our small State. I have reached the end of the study I made. Of no erudition, no art it is composed. 1922 - Writes articles for the newspaper A República.

1924 - Publishes Joio, "reviews several Brazilian and Argentine poets and writers, only one from Natal - Ferreira Itajubá". First part, articles - cultural memory found in myths: "As Verdades do Sr. Comércio, Os Cavalos da Mesopotâmia, As Razões de Baccho". Ligações de Joio e Canto de Muro. (ARAÚJO, 1998, p. 34).

Publishes Histórias que o Tempo Leva: stories of the province, based on historical data and local legends. Comments on this book by Mário de Andrade (letter of 26/9/24) and by Gilberto Freyre, Diário de Pernambuco, 28/8/24.

1925 - Monographs: "Morte de Francisco Solano Lopez", for the Congress on Geography and "Bouddha É Santo Católico?". Proclaims to have written a book about traditions, Legends and Traditions: "Since 1922 I have read and taken notes, travelled and observed." (Letter to Mário de Andrade, 12/7/25). This book was not published. Announces furthermore: "The book O Potyguarania is ready. Unfortunately the State is in a terrible financial situation and I don't want to oblige my friend Dr. José Augusto (who is the governor) to publish it. The book remains in stand by. I have ready (for about 15 months now) a book of short stories of the sertão. I keep swaying my head like a lizard between these two names - Vaqueiros e Cantadores and Sertão de Inverno" (Letter to Mário de Andrade, 30/12/25). This book was called Poética Sertaneja and disappeared, being rewritten in 1939 as Vaqueiros e Cantadores.

1926 - "The study that pleased you - about the city of Natal - belongs to a book of historical reconstructions. It will be called Figuras de Velha Memória, God willing. I am very sad about not being able to accomplish the work of my imagination. Chance has provided me with notes of such a precious worth that I am one of the rare experts on Rio Grande do Norte State’s past. It would be a disservice to my land to swallow up these notes or to allow the wrong to written about what was right, or vice-versa." (Letter to Mário de Andrade, 8/8/26).

1927 - Publishes López do Paraguai.

1928 - Book project on the history of Rio Grande do Norte, "(...) in three volumes. I have divided them like this: geographical expansion, conquest, colonization, settlement, establishment of territorial outline. Second volume: Administration, politics, economic expression, social history (genealogy of the main families, center of political irradiation, dress, cookery, customs, festive celebration, music, religion). Third volume: History of Literature." (Letter to Mário de Andrade, 1/1/28).

1929 - Project of "Etnografia Tradicional do Nordeste Brasileiro".

1930 - Writes O Marques de Olinda e seu Tempo. Writes two "booklets, outside of the market", also Quatro Cardeais and Sobre o Sr. D. Pedro II; interrupts the collaboration with A República.

"Done, typewritten and bound, I have: Marques de Olinda, História da República do Rio Grande do Norte, História da Literatura Norte Rio Grandense." (Letter to Mário de Andrade, 5/12/30).

1931 - Collaboration on the Revista Nova. Presents A Escravaria na Evolução Econômica do Rio Grande do Norte. "I also thought that the magazine would prefer work on a new subject, for example, literatura de cordel (popular poetry) about João Pessoa and its popular repercussions."

"I have a piece of work that would possibly suit the magazine. It is an essay on the "POÉTICA SERTANEJA". Some 50 pages. With unpublished and original documentation. Up until now you should have noticed that folklorists present the poesia sertaneja without the slightest explanation of its evolution and technique. I don't know of any promotional work, in the sense of detailing it and therefore making it comprehensible and logical. All that has been published so far only harps on and nobody says what it is or how it was formed. Composition in verse, types, nothing is determined. I tried to do something like this (...) I also have (thirty-something pages) another essay on Gastão D’Orleans, Count d’Eu, marshal of the Brazilian army etc. A kind of late claim for justice for my poor (…) prince. Now I am busy during the holidays studying sorcery and Indian rituals. I have here an Antônio Nagô who I met in Rio and who is headed for Pará. Something of interest will come up." 1934 - Article on Mário de Andrade, published in Boletim de Ariel; begins collaboration on the weekly newspaper from Rio de Janeiro A Ofensiva; article "O Hitlerismo Invade os Estados Unidos", 31^st May, and "O Pretexto do Armamentismo Alemão", 1^st January 1935. Also published articles about fascism in Italy, Turkey and Persia, regarding these countries’ education systems; publishes eighteen articles in the newspaper A República (31^st May to 22^nd July). The articles narrate his journey to the interior of Rio Grande do Norte; publishes Viajando o Sertão and O Mais Antigo Marco Colonial do Brasil.
